It’s been a while since I’ve sat and pounded keys. This has been a great form of expression for me over the years and I’ve been too tied up in everyday life to take a pause to sit and do this. I haven’t made it a priority. So, here I am, once again in deep thought. Watching the world going on around us and listening to the noise the world creates. Granted, I have spent much time in the outdoors to combat the noise and, instead, listened to the symphony of creation.
On the way home from taking my son to school this morning an age old goodie came on the radio. I was born in 1975 so 80’s and 90’s music has impacted me since those were the notes of my youth. Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers came on. Love that song. The smooth rhythms make it hard to not tap a foot and nod your head as the music plays. Something hit me, though. I remember seeing something a while back about the lyrics. I have always been more in tune with the music than the lyrics of songs. I remember seeing something talking about the lyrics and how they eerily mimic the goings on of today’s world. So, once I got home I Googled the lyrics and have been sitting here looking at them with my eyes wide open in amazement. Here they are along with my thoughts and recollections.

And Alderaan’s not far away, it’s Californication -Beautiful earth-like planet in Star Wars. Princess Leia’s home. Planet was destroyed by evil in a show of force.

Well, there you have it. My deep ponderings of this song. Could the lyrics be related to my perception of them? I don’t know. Some of those just jump out at me. Especially the Greta Thunberg part. I mean, she is Swedish and is always traveling and doing talks on the screen. Crazy. What put The Red Hot Chili Peppers in a place to have these thoughts when written? When these guys got together (Songwriters: Anthony Kiedis / Chad Gaylord Smith / John Anthony Frusciante / Michael Peter Balzary) what were they taking or what spurred these crafty thoughts? I just find it very thought provoking. Was it some sort of prophecy to be fulfilled? Either way, they nailed it and I’ve never listened to this song the same as I did in my youth. You be the judge.
