February will be my 2 year mark since having gone through my 1 week resident initiation at Boulder Crest Retreat. Two years have gone by pretty fast and a LOT has happened. Like I’ve stated before, probably the best takeaway and the foundation for “change” is that I became more intimate with “choice”. My favorite quote is from Viktor Frankl. I truly believe that every human’s course in life is based on choice. You can blame whatever you choose but it all comes down to that one word.
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
Most of it started about two months after I got home. In those two months I realized I wanted massive change in life. I wanted to crush the next 40 plus years of my life. I figured my first 41 set me up for success in the next 41. Not knowing what I wanted to do I began to read. One of the greatest things I read was something that Sir Richard Branson said about opportunity. He said that opportunity was like coming to the edge of a cliff. Jump and learn to fly on the way down. I later found out that Ray Bradbury was the originator of that quote. The original states, “jump off the cliff and learn how to make wings on the way down”. Either way, the point is to just say yes and figure it out. Another great thing I learned is that you have to get uncomfortable to grow. Enter the lobster analogy. So, that’s what I did. I got uncomfortable to grow.
The first thing I did was join a network marketing company. Here’s where the naysayers/quitters start slinging mud. It’s all good. That first year I made almost 19 grand because I got VERY uncomfortable and jumped off the cliff. I don’t work the business near as much as I used to and while doing it I learned a lot. Some of the greatest takeaways, thus far, are to read quality literature. I dove into personal growth and development books. That made me reflect on military leadership training. After some time of jumping off those cliffs it becomes easier to do. Yes, you may crash and burn on a few but you will also have great wins. Failures are successes if you let them be and see them as such. The other day my pastor said something that really hit me. He said, “Doubt your doubts”. So true. We, you, are capable of more than you can imagine. Prove it to yourself.
In the past two years I’ve jumped into crypto currency investing as well as the network marketing. I choose not to work for any other person to help make them rich. I’d rather work for myself to create wealth and help build my character. Recently, my mother and I jumped into a new business venture together. It’s in the trucking industry and we are both VERY excited!!!
Another thing I’ve learned is that you can’t do the same thing next year and expect much to be different from this year. You HAVE to step up your game. You HAVE to do things differently. The old adage is so true. “If you do what you’ve always done you’ll always get what you’ve always had”. Basically…quit being a coward. Quit robbing yourself of the opportunity to be incredibly great. Stop looking in the mirror and doubting your own capabilities. Stop doubting yourself and your potential. If you concentrate on what you’re trying to avoid, you’ll hit it. If your course is steering you into an obstacle, keep your hope and sights set on smooth sailing and it’ll work out. We become what we think about.
I titled this what it is for a reason. It’s to get you thinking. If you’re like, “Meh, I survived”, well, that sucks. If it’s, “I freakin’ crushed this year!!!”, you’re doing great and I encourage you to step it up and challenge yourself. I can tell you that next year for me, my wife and family is going to be amazing. I have nothing planned in concrete but I know my wife and I know myself. We’re going to do some amazing things all while continuing to love and support each other in whatever hair brained ideas we have. I wish you all the very best going into 2019. Yeah, that’s seems crazy. I truly believe in people to do some pretty killer things. People are awesome.
