I gotta say, I have searched high and low for the right tires to slap on the rear of ole “Pearl”. I’ve read many reviews and research as well as opinions on the RIGHT tires. Well, I finally pulled the trigger.
My Z just rolled over 37,000 miles. It’s a 2015 Nissan 370z Nismo Tech. I have been running the factory tires and have gotten just about everything I can get from them. The tires I’ve been running are the Continental Extreme Contact Sport. They have been absolutely awesome all summer and fall but when it gets wet out they get a little squirrely. I don’t usually drive in the rain or when it’s nasty out but it happens. I bought the car with 18K miles on it and quite a bit of rubber. I have driven in a couple Auto Cross events and had taken it to the drag strip once.
After researching I finally decided to pull the trigger on Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Still an asymmetrical tire but with a different tread pattern. I figured since we’re just getting into the wet part of the year with snow and rain that I’d like to try these out. I gotta say, I’m becoming more pleased each day. Even with the traction control on, my old tires would break traction a bit. Not with these. Not yet. I live down a curvy road and with the wet pavement we’ve had lately the new DWS tires have held up nicely. They’re a good lookin’ tire, too! The only difference that I’ve felt is a bit of play/side wall lean in the turns. Once the hit the lean threshold they hook up really well. I’ll continue to push them a bit more in the turn to find that breaking point, or just before I cross it.
All-in-all, I’m very happy with the new tires. They’ve grown on me and the past few days I’ve pushed them on the turns and from a dead stop. These suckers just hook up!!! The grip the tires have are pretty remarkable. I was thinking they may ride a little smoother since the sidewalls are bit thinner than my old tires but they seem to ride the same. If you’re looking for a smooth Sunday cruising tire, these are not them. You’ll feel everything on the road just like any high performance tire. If you don’t like the stiff and rigid feel, don’t buy a sports car. These things are made to feel everything and respond like a ninja!!

So I’ve driven with these tires for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I was finally able to stretch the legs on the Z and open it up. No me gusta. I did not like the way the car handled at high speed. Once I hit 90 the tail end gave me a bit of a floating feel. I slowed it down a bit and did subtle slaloms back and forth. The rear of the car floated for sure and had a slight delay in response. The old tires were much more responsive and gave an immediate steering feedback. I’m gonna run these tires til they wear out to give them a fair shake, but right now, I wouldn’t buy them again. I’d go back the tires I had on before. Once I got home I inflated tires to 42psi. I’ll run a harder tire for a bit and see how she acts. Tire pressure was at 38. Max tire pressure is 51psi and recommended car pressure is 35. For what it’s worth.
