I first heard of this while reading the book Living with a SEAL: 31 Days Training with the Toughest Man on the Planet . The book was given to me by my sister-in-law. I didn’t pick it up for months cause I thought, “Ugh!! Not another SEAL book”. Come to find out, it wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. Actually, it’s a fantastic book!!! I highly recommend you get it and read it. It highlights David Goggins who I’ve come to really follow. His life story is amazing and I often listen to him speak. Anyway, the book is written by Jesse Itzler, a billionaire marathon, iron man and ultra marathon athlete entrepreneur. His book absolutely cracked me up!! Jesse is pretty freakin’ awesome and someone I’d LOVE to meet. Actually, I may just work on that. In the book Jesse mentions “Fruit til noon”. Fruit til noon? Hmmm….
Here’s the premise of it. I honestly forgot what site I pulled this from. It’ll give you the gist of it.
“The rules: Eat ONLY FRUIT in the morning until 12:00, and never eat fruit as part of, before or after, any other meal. The USDA recommends 2-4 servings of fruit per day. With the fruit in the morning rule, this is easily accomplished and done for the day!
Fruit in the morning changed my life!
If there are two things that remain 99% consistent in my life, they are fruit until noon, and no eating anything after 8:00 p.m.
I have to give most of the credit here to the book Fit for Life
by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond for opening the door to a common sense approach to healthy eating and really jump starting my study and passion for alternative medicine. I encourage anyone looking for more detailed information to give it a read. It’s quick, and easy to understand.
In a nut shell the book looks at how the body processes and assimilates food. Fruit has the highest water content of any food, it requires less energy to digest than any other food, and does not digest in the stomach with the exception of bananas, dates, and dried fruit. For this reason, making fruit your food of choice for “breakfast” (note the origin of this word; to break the fast) may be optimal. Fruit is hydrating, cleansing and detoxifying, full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fiber and antioxidants.
Fruit in the morning lifestyle did 4 major things for me:
-
Created regular daily bowel movements
-
Eliminated headaches
-
Eliminated acid indigestion
-
Kept my weight exactly the same for the last 20 years.
According to Fit for Life, “The only time fruit can have any negative manifestations at all is when it is altered by heat or incorrectly combined, meaning consumed with or immediately following any other food. When eaten on an empty stomach, fresh fruit can only have a positive effect, it accelerates weight loss.”
I, personally, started doing it in February 2018. I was pretty strict with it for a few months. Now, I usually stick with it Mon-Fri. The first thing I noticed was how much energy I had throughout the day. The next thing I noticed was how much my bowel movements improved. I mean, if you think about it, fruit and vegetables are water soluble which makes them much easier to digest. Decreasing stress on your digestive system and quicker absorption of much needed vitamins, nutrients and minerals in your body. Rather than billing your gut with protein and fats which tend to slow you down, make you feel sluggish, digest slower and are absorbed slower. Once you hit noon, game on. Eat what you wish. I can totally tell a difference in how I feel and how my digestive system feels when I eat a “hearty” breakfast in the morning. I love me some biscuits and gravy but man, that stuff just wrecks me!!
My recommendation is try it. Commit to doing it for 2 weeks!! See how you feel and see if it’s worth it for you. I’m a HUGE advocate of fruits and vegetables. I’m not anti-meat by any means. I just think it should be eaten in moderation. You’d be surprised what dialing that back would do for you. My dairy intake is extremely minimal and has been for a few years. I hope you found this article interesting and I challenge you to TRY IT!! Leave me some feedback. I’d love to hear what you do or if any of you have tried fruit til noon and what your experience has been. Please Like, Share and Subscribe. Thanks!!
